Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a sauna and a steam room?

A sauna is dry heat: a wooden cabin, usually 70–110 °C with low humidity. A steam room is heated by a steam generator at around 40–50 °C with humidity close to saturation, so it is built with water-resistant surfaces such as tiles and mosaic.

What is the difference between a Turkish bath and a steam room?

A steam room is a small closed room heated by steam. A Turkish bath (hammam) has a heated central stone, basins and marble surfaces, and is used for washing and scrubbing. Heat comes from the floor and walls, and humidity is lower than in a steam room.

What are a salt room and a snow room?

A salt room has walls finished in salt blocks or salt coating and is used for relaxation. A snow room is chilled and produces snow, used to cool down after the sauna or steam room; it is planned next to the hot rooms in a spa area.

Can you build a steam room at home?

Yes. A shower area or small room can become a steam room. It needs a steam generator, full waterproofing, a sloped ceiling to stop drips, a drain, water-resistant finish and a closed glass door.
